What is a DNS Error?
When you try to visit a site and get a cannot find server or DNS error, chances are that you just assume the site is down and move on. While that could be true, it also could indicate a DNS server error with the site. That problem will not clear up on its own. Instead someone will have to make changes to the site and the server it is pinging to get the problem resolved. If your site is the one in question, you should visit your hosting manager and change the DNS server.
The Basic DNS Error
The “DNS error or server not found” error is the simplest and most general out there. You really cannot tell the exact problem when you get “can’t find server or DNS error.” In fact, sometimes it may not even be the correct DNS error. The problem may be any one of a number of DNS errors that is more specific than the general DNS server error. In order to perform a DNS error fix, you will need to look more into the specific problem going on. Instead of just assuming the “DNS error or cannot find server” error is something that will resolve itself by renewing the DNS settings, look for other potential problems.
Tracking Down a DNS Error
For example, consider the reason you are getting the DNS error. Are you getting a dial-up DNS error? Are you using a console player? If so, the Xbox Live DNS error and DNS error for PSP are the search phrases you need to find out what is going on. The default information you will find about DNS errors are for a DNS error in Internet Explorer. Because this browser is the most common, almost all forums and other postings about correcting the problem assume a DNS error on Internet Explorer. Now, if you have an Internet Explorer DNS error, that assumption works well. Otherwise, you need to do a little more digging. Read any messages in the smaller text on the error page as they may provide a clue. Determine if the DNS server or hosting company is having problems. They may be working on the error and resolving it on their own. Also consider the possibility that you changed something by accident or on purpose but got it wrong within your hosting manager. Spend some time and track down the problem so that you can get your site up and running as quickly as possible.
